The whole Dallas/Fort Worth area is like from east of Dallas to the west of Fort Worth, that's like 33 miles. So there's a lot of ... Dallas is a big city. Fort Worth is a big city. So I started out in Dallas and shortly after I found that they had mid-cities in between Dallas and Fort Worth. Lots of mid-cities. They have the small town feel. They have a lot less traffic, a lot less congestion, but they have great families that are living in a small community and that's what drew me to Keller.

My dad came to me right out of high school and a month before graduation, as a matter-of-fact senior, and he goes, “Where are you going to go to school next year? Where are you going to college, and what are you going to take?” I said, “Well, Dad, I don't know where to go. I don't even know what to take.” He goes, “Okay, well I'm going to get you to go see your two uncles.” “So which two uncles?” He says, “Well, Uncle Mike's a dentist and Uncle Al's a lawyer, and so I want you to go talk to them.”He had me in Al's office the next day.He said, “Law school's three years.” He said, “At the end of the year you take all those books and you throw them out the window because it's not what you know, it's who you know. It's very political.” I said, “Thank you, Uncle Al. I'm not going to go to law school.” So I go home and tell my dad. “Yeah, Dad, I'm not going to law school.” He said, “Well, then you're going to go talk to Mike.” So I'm in Mike's office the next day, and he says, “Well let me tell you something about dentistry. Dentistry is an art and a science,” and he says, “You already told me you're good in the sciences,” and he says, “When you told me that was your hobby, that told me you were good with your hands. You like working with your hands.” That was the first time a little light bulb went off. Mike said, “I think you'd be great to take either pre-med or pre-den, and I think you'd like it.”
So I said, “Golly. I'm getting good vibes here. Something. Someone's steering me in the right direction.” So I went to Loyola and they had pre-den, and I loved it every year, and then after that LSU took it over right when I was entering dental school, so I was in the first class in the brand new school at LSU, and it was a wonderful experience the whole time.
